November 8, 2011

Simple and inexpensive ideas for the Fall and Thanksgiving are as close as your back yard. You can create a beautiful centerpiece for your table with colorful leaves, acorns, pine cones, branches with colorful berries, and you can make it fun by including your children. Enjoy even more easy to make decorations with scented pine cones.
Pine Cone table Decor
Scented pine cones are becoming increasingly popular, and with that popularity they are also becoming more expensive to purchase. However, they are easy and inexpensive to make yourself. Grab some regular pine cones from your local hobby and craft store and give them a good rinse then lay the pine cones on an old cookie sheet and bake at 200°F until the pine cones open up. This kills bugs, melts sap, etc. Spread pine cones out on layers of newspaper. Using a foam brush, apply glue to the tips of each pine cone. Place pine cones in a bag with a mixture of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg and shake well. Allow the pine cones to dry overnight. You can now use your homemade scented pine cones in gift baskets, on wreaths or placed in bowls for a table centerpiece. You can also hang them from your door handles or use them as fire starters after a while for the fire place. The aroma will smell delicious.

Other simple decorating ideas are to create a door wreath with twisted branches. Attach pine cones, berries or acorns with a hot glue gun for a more festive, colorful design. For Thanksgiving décor, you can paint your own plates or platters. Use a leaf stencil and shimmer paint to create beautiful plates that you can use year after year. Make it a family project to create precious memories. And, add different size candles to your Thanksgiving table for a warm and cozy atmosphere.
